PTA to itself block immoral websites now

Islamabad (HRNW) The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced a new system to stop unethical and immoral content on the internet in the country.

According to details, now, the PTA would be able to block immoral and illegal websites on its own. Under the DNS system, the authority would be able to block websites on the level of domain.

Earlier, list of the websites to be blocked were sent to the companies which provided internet.

The PTA spokesperson said there was no mechanism of monitoring social media in the new system. He said the system was designed to block immoral content.

“Neither it will affect privacy of the citizens, not it will slow speed of the internet,” he said adding that the AI system of blocking websites would save time.

The PTA said, “The work of blocking illegal content was already being done, however, to further improve it, the automation process of domain name resolution has been implemented at the ISP level as per the policy guidelines of the government of Pakistan.”
