Protest of Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi against loadshedding, expensive electricity

KARACHI (HRNW) A protest was organized by Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi against expensive electricity and worst loadshedding at the Electric Head Office in Ghazri.
Interim Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Munam Zafar Khan said that he will also file a petition against severe load shedding of K Electric. Town-level demonstrations will be held across the city on Saturday, May 11. If K Electric does not correct its Qibla, K Electric also has the option of sit-in at the Head Office and Governor’s House.
Munam Zafar Khan said that the city of Karachi is the economic hub of Pakistan. Karachi accounts for 42% of the country’s total taxes. The situation is that severe loadshedding is being done by K Electric as soon as summer begins. The 9th and 10th exams have started from today, in which more or less three and a half lakh students are participating. Load shedding of 12 to 14 hours is being done in most areas of Karachi. The people of Karachi are suffering from load shedding despite paying their electricity bills.
Munum Zafar Khan said that K Electric is also being given subsidy in the amount of billions of rupees but K Electric has not followed any agreement. K Electric illegally collected billions of rupees from the people of Karachi in the name of various taxes.
Munum Zafar Khan said that all the government companies apart from Karachi have lower losses compared to K Electric. Jamaat-e-Islami had earlier gone to the Supreme Court and raised the issue of K-Electric at the squares and intersections. Jamaat-e-Islami has been running the Haq Du Karachi movement for the past 8 years.
Munum Zafar Khan said that K Electric is not ready to change its stance, we have all avenues open. We have also sent a letter to the Chairman of Nepra against the cruelty of K Electric. He will participate in the hearing of Nepra on May 9 and fight the case of the people of Karachi.
