Karachi residents buying masks at triple their production cost

Karachi (HRNW) The government wants everyone in Pakistan to wear face masks but it hasn’t set an official price, leaving sellers free to charge whatever price they please.

A Faisalabad factory producing three-ply masks, which is what the government recommends people wear, said it costs them Rs10 to make a square metre of the standard 60g mask material.

However, when visited medical stores selling the masks in Karachi, it found that while wholesalers supplied the masks for Rs12, they were being sold for between Rs30 and Rs35 per mask.

A pack of 50 masks is available for somewhere between Rs1,110 and Rs1,125.
