Flick and Davies missing as Bayern start training; Thiago attends

Bayern Munich returned to team training on Friday without coach Hansi Flick or full back Alphonso Davies on the pitch but Thiago and Javi Martinez were present despite being linked with transfers.

Assistant coach Hermann Gerland led the session as Flick was at the funeral of long-time Hoffenheim president Peter Hofmann, whom he knew from his spell at that club.

Bayern completed the treble last season by winning the Champions League on August 23 and are now back in action following a short break.

Canada’s Davies worked inside according to the club but midfielder Thiago and veteran defensive specialist Martinez were involved though both could yet leave in this transfer window.

A total of 24 players took to the field including some from the youth team. Defender Jerome Boateng sported purple hair and trained alone as he continues to recover from injury.

Bayern’s German Cup first round tie scheduled for this week has been delayed to October to give them extra recovery time. The Bundesliga title-holders open the new season at hoe to Schalke on September 18.
