Hamburg to host Euro 2024 draw in Elbphilharmonie concert hall

The draw for the 2024 European Championship in Germany will be made in Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie concert hall in December 2023, the German football federation (DFB) said Friday.

Qualifying teams will be split into six groups of four at the draw for the finals which are to take place in June-July 2024.

“Euro 2024 aims to transcend borders and build bridges,” said German World Cup winner Philipp Lahm in his role as chief executive of the DFB Euro GmbH organizing firm.

“Holding the final draw at this place of high culture is in the same spirit. Football is at home in all sectors of society. Germany will hold a Euro for everyone.”

The Elbphilharmonie took several years to build before being completed in 2016.

Martin Kallen, chief of events at European football governing body UEFA is it is a “spectacular setting, with its unique architecture and phenomenal reputation.

“The final round draw marks the point where the competition starts hotting up and the ceremony at the Philharmonic Hall is an excellent calling card for Hamburg, Germany and Europe as a whole.”

Berlin, Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Cologne, Leipzig, Munich and Stuttgart are the host cities for the tournament.

The multi-venue Euro 2020, with its finals in London, was delayed to next year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
