Leipzig to play cup match in Augsburg as planned on December 22

RB Leipzig will play their second-round German cup match as planned on December 22 after hosts Augsburg did not grant their request for a postponement until January.

“As it stands we will play (on December). Augsburg have spoken out against a postponement for understandable reasons, so we will play,” Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann said on Tuesday.

Leipzig wanted the game moved to January because of a heavy schedule in December which also included two Champions League matches. But Augsburg objected, stating a heavy schedule for themselves in January.

Treble winners Bayern Munich and Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen had meanwhile earlier been successful in moving their cup games against Holstein Kiel and Eintracht Eintracht Frankfurt, respectively, to mid-January.
