Munich president condemnes racist comments against defender Davies

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has joined those condemning online racist slurs against their player Alphonso Davies and his girlfriend Jordyn Huitema.

“The racist hostility after Jordyn Huitema’s post against our player Alphonso Davies has hurt us as well and we will not tolerate it in any way,” Wednesday’s Bild paper quoted Hainer as saying.

“Our club stands for open-mindedness. We founded the ‘Red Against Racism’ initiative some time ago, which we practice very actively throughout the club. Exclusion, discrimination, hatred and violence in every form have no place in our world. ”

Huitema, 19, who is also a professional footballer at French side Paris Saint-Germain, had last week posted a number of hate comments on Instagram which had been posted under an earlier summer holiday picture of the young Canadian couple.

Davies, 20, has been at Bayern since early 2019.

Munich team-mate Jerome Boateng had also condemned the remarks, tweeting he was “totally disgusted to read the comments” and adding “you should never listen to people full of hate posting cowardly on social media.”
