Former interim coach Terzic becomes Dortmund technical director

Edin Terzic, who salvaged Borussia Dortmund’s 2021 season and won the German Cup, will move from the coaching staff to a new position of technical director, the Bundesliga club said Tuesday.

Long-serving coach Terzic took over on the Dortmund bench in December 2020 following the dismissal of Lucien Favre to lead the team to third place and a spot in the Champions League.

He also delivered a trophy in the form of the German Cup victory over RB Leipzig.

And though assured of a coaching place under new boss Marco Rose if he wanted it, Dortmund said Terzic and club leadership had worked out a new position for him. He signed a contract for the role to 2025.

“I can hardly wait to begin,” said Terzic of the position which will include squad planning, monitoring loan out payers and acting as a link between first team and youth centre.

On Monday Dortmund said Sebastian Kehl, head of professional football, would replace Michael Zorc as sporting director when he steps down in 2022.
