Glasner relishing new challenge at Eintracht Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner is eagerly anticipating the coming season at his new club and hopes to build on recent success.

“I’m happy that it’s finally started,” Frankfurt told reporters Tuesday at his official introduction. “I’m determined to build something here and play successful football.”

Frankfurt were on course for the Champions League last season but lost their way when coach Adi Huetter said he would leave for Borussia Moenchengladbach.

The 46-year-old Austrian Glasner was then tempted to Frankfurt having led Wolfsburg to fourth, and a spot in Europe’s elite competition.

Frankfurt’s squad, minus those who played at Euro 2020 or are still there, will begin training on Thursday. “We will start with high intensity,” said Glasner. “I’m looking forward to getting to know the players.”

Glasner does not expect major rebuilding work, saying “the squad looks very good. We have a mixture of experienced and young, hungry players.

“So we will not change too much.”

Glasner, however, did not give specific goals for Eintracht, who won the German Cup in 2018 and made the Europa League semi-final a year later.

Frankfurt begin the new Bundesliga campaign away to Borussia Dortmund on the weekend of August 14.
