Islamabad housing schemes for judges, bureaucrats declared illegal

Islamabad (HRNW)  The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ruled that housing schemes for judges and powerful government officers launched in four new sectors of the federal capital are “illegal, unconstitutional, void and without jurisdiction.”

A bench comprising IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani handed down the verdict after hearing an appeal from the Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation (FGEHF), which subsequently came to be known as Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) and others.

The ruling, which is being hailed as a landmark decision, concerns four new sectors of Islamabad F-12, G-12, F-14, and F-15. The FGEHA had launched housing schemes for the new sectors, but its policies and practices were challenged by many including some of the FGEHF members.
