Lahore’s jeweller robbed of Rs30m in Karachi

Karachi (HRNW) A Lahore-based jeweler was allegedly robbed of Rs30 million Wednesday in Karachi, making it one the biggest robbery of the year in the metropolis.

Abu Bakr was in the city to receive payments from his customers.

Talking to media, he said that he was going to Cantt Railway Station in an auto rickshaw to take the train back to Lahore. As the rickshaw reached the Nusrat Bhutto underpass at Daud Pota Road, four robbers on two motorbikes tried to intercept it. The driver sped up the rickshaw but lost control and it overturned after hitting a wall. The robbers took the bag containing cash.

The police reached the spot and moved Abu Bakr to the hospital. He was later taken into a protective custody.

According to the police, robbers conducted a recce and had information about the money.

The police have taken the auto rickshaw driver into custody. All the customers from whom Abu Bakr received payments will also be interrogated.
