Thieves steal Jeff Koons’ ‘Balloon Dog’ from gallery in Germany

Frankfurt (dpa) – Thieves have stolen one of Jeff Koons’ famous “Balloon Dog” sculptures from an art gallery in Frankfurt, police said on Thursday.

The porcelain sculpture in question, “Balloon Dog (orange),” was created in 2015 and is worth 11,000 euros (13,000 dollars), police said.

It was reportedly stolen on November 6, but there was still no trace of it, prompting police to launch a public call for information.

Original works by US artist Jeff Koons have been sold for exorbitant prices at international auctions.

His sculpture “Balloon Rabbit” was sold for 91.1 million dollars at auction in New York last year.
