Scholz, Zelensky discuss aim of ‘negotiated solution’ to war

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke again on the phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday, exchanging views on the current military and humanitarian situation in the war with Russia.

Government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said Scholz and Zelensky had agreed “that a diplomatic, negotiated solution between Ukraine and Russia” was necessary to end the conflict.

Russia must immediately end its combat operations and withdraw its troops from Ukraine, the leaders agreed.

The leaders “agreed to remain in close contact,” Hebestreit said.
